Self Esteem is something we’re all born with, it’s just that many people have forgotten it along the way. I mean, imagine a baby being scared to cry in public or a having a poor body image. Insecurity is something we learn but fortunately confidence is something we can relearn by changing certain beliefs and utilising simple techniques and procedures.
When people suffer from low Self Esteemthey have formed a negative set of beliefs about their self. Beliefs such not being worthy of attention, that they don't deserve to achieve their goals, or not good enough to be with that special someone.
Some other beliefs relating to low Self Esteem are:
* I am a failure

* There is no point in trying, I never get it right
* People will make judgements about me

Two important things to note about about beliefs are:
a. They are not necessarily true, despite the fact that they often seem this way
b. They are impermanent.
Many people used to believe in Father Christmas, but most people grow out of this belief at some point or other (sorry if I’ve burst your bubble!).
Once you realise that a certain set of beliefs about yourself has been holding you back, and that you can change those beliefs really quite simply if you chose to, then you can find life beginning to open up all the things that start to happen when you have a balanced self esteem.
So what is it that people with balanced self esteem doing?
Well firstly, they are not usually confident about everything going alright all of the time. Life is uncertain for us all, confident or not. Confident people are able to relax with this uncertainty. This allows people to take risks and as fortune favours the bold this is also one reason why confident people just seem to get better deal in life. Another thing that confident people are doing is looking at the reality of a situation. For example, if we receive a compliment, most times we actually deserve it. Those who feel insecure are more likely to dismiss it, saying something like ‘they’re just saying that because they feel sorry for me’ or ‘they must want some thing from me’ whereas confident people have the tendency to accept that compliment.
