Initially dubbed the ‘love drug’ due to the heightened sense of empathy that people can experience, Ecstasy influenced a generation of skinhead ‘yobs’ to cuddle and love thy neighbour.

The high on Ecstasy can rarely be rivalled, even by ecstasy itself as the initial euphoria that was once achieved is very hard to find again as people use the drug repeatedly over a period of time. Commonly people will get somewhat mashed, and of course a sense of love and appreciation for one another but experiences like those first rushes rarely come back.

Ecstasy produces the release of Serotonin, which is responsible for this intense, loving high. Unfortunately we only have a limited supply of Serotonin and once our natural happy high is gone, all we are left with is an emptiness filled with a lack of hope for the future and accompanied by irritation and despair.

When people start using Ecstasy they rarely experience this kind of ‘come down’ and don’t see what all the fuss is about. But as time goes on, through repeated use the come down gets worse and lasts longer. The buzz gets less but there can still be an association towards using in social situations despite the fact that it is causing more misery than fun.
