Bullying in all forms is frequently a highly distressing situation that can cause depression, anxiety, embarrassment and a whole range of other negative thoughts, emotions and beliefs.

 

Bullies often rely on their subject to give them the power they’re searching for. When you are no longer giving them this power they are forced to reassess their behaviour or move onto another subject.

Children's Issues

 

Please note: When working with children I always have at least one parent/guardian present for the sessions and that I may also give instructions for family members to carry out.


My sessions are Children Focused which means that I always consider the child’s needs first.

 

I appreciate that parents can find it difficult when their children are suffering from issues and I also endeavour to support the parent in the best way that I can.

 

Behavioural Issues

Children in general will naturally try and push the boundaries of their parents. Knowing there are strong boundaries there makes them feel safe in the same way that when you wake up in a lit room you feel safe because you can see the walls and door. If the room is pitch black then it can be scary trying to feel your way around.

 

There are times when we need that extra help and support in maintaining our child’s behaviour, which may have gotten problematic.

 

Bed wetting

In some cases bed wetting can be the result of an underlying medical problem such as the slow development of the regulatory system, a urinary infection, kidney disease or an abnormality in the urinary tract. These conditions will sometimes cause problems in the day as well, but like every physical condition I treat, I advise that you get it thoroughly checked out with your G.P. before attending an appointment with me.


If the bedwetting has started after a period of dry beds, then this usually indicates some underlying emotional stress or anxiety.


Many issues can cause this to arise such as bullying, moving house, the death of a loved one or pet, a new baby in the family. Often the issue stems from a lack of control around the circumstance.
Never punish them and be as understanding as you can. This will help to reduce or at least contain the anxiety around the bed wetting itself.

Thumb Sucking

Baby scans have shown that some babies actually suck their thumb in the womb so for some people it can be a hard habit to break, and one that has been very comforting also.

 

It is understandable if the child has gained comfort from thumb sucking it’s whole life and is then told to stop with no means to replace the comfort. Additionally, thumb sucking becomes habitual and happens on an unconscious level.


I work to bring the thumb sucking onto a conscious level and look at meeting the replacement needs of the child in terms of comfort.

 

Similar methods can be used on a ‘blanky’ or other such items of strong association or comfort.

 

Stuttering

Despite common belief stuttering and stammering are not physical conditions. It is caused by a number of things including thinking about what you’re saying while you’re trying to say it (usually an unconscious function), fear and anxiety.


Repetition also plays a key role and can create stuttering to happen as an unconscious response.

Hypnotherapy can help you, working on a deep unconscious level to free you of the root of the speech impediment.

All manner of fears including those of needles, animals, wasps and bees, dentist etc can successfully be dealt with through Hypnotherapy.

Eating Disorders

 

 

Anorexia

 

If you have been suffering from anorexia then you will probably have experienced one or more of the following symptoms:

Anorexia often comes side by side with ritualistic behaviour and a lack of food seems rational, which diminish the ability to observe the dangers inherent in the behaviours. Malnourishment causes the body to use up its reserves of energy and starts to use the fats out of the organs. As a result of malnourishment depression can often set in but this can sometimes be abated by a balanced food intake.

Bulimia

 

This condition is characterized with compulsion to overeat often followed by the desire to remove the food which is underpinned by a fixation on controlling body weight, size and shape.

The means for controlling these factors usually include one or more of the following:

Control is a significant issue and controlling body weight can be a compensation of feeling a lack of control in other areas.

Binge Eating

 

People who binge eating do not use methods to eliminate the food from their system and consequently may suffer from being overweight. (See weight loss)

This will certainly not always be the case because the binge may have been preceded by
skipping meals.

 

A binge response may be triggered quite quickly by a number of uncomfortable feelings such as stress, grief or anger and guilt will often ensue.

Insomnia is the condition whereby one feels unable to sleep over a period of time and can be the result of anxiety, excitement, depression or simply routine.

 

It is normal for us to have trouble sleeping on occasions, but when this happens frequently it can become very destructive on our health, mood and life in general.

 

Oftentimes in this kind of situation we ‘try’ very hard to sleep only to find that frustration follows. One cannot ‘try’ to sleep anymore than one has to ‘try’ to breathe. It is something that we allow to happen quite naturally.

 

Through hypnotherapy, you can have deep, restful sleep by relearning that natural process, utilizing relaxation techniques, adjusting your routine to enhance your sleeping potential and addressing any underlying causes.

The symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder include:

 

O.C.D. can be a highly destructive pattern, causing the person suffering the complaint a huge amount of distress.

Hypnosis can be a very healthy way to lose weight when used in conjunction with a manageable healthy lifestyle.

 

It is great at being able to change habits and behaviours, overcome cravings and work with some of the deeper more sensitive issues around weight loss such as body image, self esteem, shame, guilt and stress.

 

Some people have a poor body image and are not actually over weight but feel fat. Hypnotherapy can be used to give a more realistic sense of the body as well increasing the ability to accept oneself as we are.

 

Quite often, people who try to lose weight using diets which can be counter productive as they do not work in line with the bodies functioning.


When we start to eat less food our body turns on its ‘starvation mode’. This basically means that it recognises less food intake and starts to store fats because it does not know when there will be more food available. It is a great survival mechanism, one that has allowed us to be healthy in times where food has been in hardship.


The trouble lies when people then eat more than usual because while the body is in ‘starvation mode’ it will store more fats from the surplus food.


What can then happen is that people tend to put on more weight from that piece of cake, those couple of bars of chocolate or that binge than they lost while dieting.

 

This is what is called ‘Yoyo’ dieting whereby we lose some weight then quickly gain it and struggle to lose it again.

 

People who are effective at keeping their weight off have a great relationship to food and exercise. When you start to learn how to manage your feelings and change your behaviours for more positive, appropriate ones for the moment, you will find that weight loss has become an easier natural process rather than those difficult ones enforced by various diets.
